Dell Precision M4800 Laptop Specifications
Our Specialist view of the Dell Precision M4800 laptop
The Spec:
The refurbished Precision M4800 Dell laptop has the following spec: a 15.6 inch full high definition (1920 x 1080 resolution) display with a chunky solid plastic chassis with plenty of strength added by a magnesium alloy structure. Housed inside this Military spec tested chassis is an Intel Core i7 quad core processor, 16GB RAM, a 500GB mechanical HDD plus a 256GB Solid State Drive (SSD) and a discrete Nvidia Quadro K1100M 2GB graphics. Various connectivity options include WiFi, Bluetooth, Gigabit LAN, USB 3.0, HDMI, VGA and more. Windows 10 Professional is preloaded.
The Good Bits:
Where to start? It is a monster laptop but it needs to be, just to house the discrete card and DVD+-RW optical drive. The 2GB GDDR5 graphics card is a proper step up from Intel onboard graphics and means proper gaming, video editing and other processor and graphics hungry applications are able to run on the Dell M4800. Moving on from graphics and there is just loads of everything. Loads of RAM, a large SSD, and more connectivity options that any one user could need. You could even add a secondary hard drive by removing the optical drive.
The Not So Good Bits:
It’s not just a monster performance laptop, it’s also a bit of a monster is size and weight. It’s impossible to ignore the almost 3 kilo weight and chunky almost 4 cm thick chassis. This isn’t a laptop you’d want to be carrying around with you all day but then again Dell didn’t design in with that in mind and if you want something more portable such as a 13-14” laptop, then a compromise would need to be made on performance.
The Design:
The Dell Precision M4800 isn’t sleek and modern but we are ok with this. It’s clear that was never Dells intention when designing it. It’s a workhorse that’s designed to be tough and powerful; nothing more nothing less and we respect Dell for this. There is fantastic choice of ports spread evenly on each side with a few on the back so it’s unlikely you’ll have to juggle which devices you have connected.
Suitability:
No doubt the Precision M4800 is designed for professionals in design work that need instant performance and a durable design.
