Our Specialist view of the Dell Optiplex 7050 Small Form Factor PC
The Spec:
The SFF Optiplex 7050 refurbished PC specs are as follows: As the name suggests this is a small computer with a chassis measuring only 29 x 9.26 x 29.20 cm and weighing approximately 5.14 kg. Within is an Intel Core i7-7700 7th generation quad core processor running at 3.60GHz that can over clock to 4.20GHz. 8GB RAM installed that can be upgraded to 64GB plus a 256GB 2.5” SATA Solid State Drive (SSD). The PC also has a slim line DVDRW optical drive, a mix of USB 3.0, USB Type C, DisplayPort and HDMI video connections. Windows 10 Professional is also preloaded.
The Good Bits:
At the point of manufacture the Dell 7050 was available in several different sizes. All versions offer the same sturdy build quality with upgraded performance and features. The 7th gen i7 processor can boost the speed to run at 4.20GHz and combine that with the maximum capacity of 64GB RAM via 4 separate slots and a fast 2.5inch SATA SSD, all 3 make for faster boot up and task performance. The 7050 also has up to date USB ports and 3 video connections.
The Not So Good Bits:
At present there is no end user option to upgrade the operating system to Microsoft’s latest Windows 11. For some that won’t be an issue as Windows 10 is still supported and will be for some time yet. For those that are looking for that extra bit of longevity that may be a problem. The SSD isn’t an issue as the pc has a 2.5” drive bay and replacing a drive is straightforward; however there is no space to add an additional drive and the half height PCI slots limit what you use the slots for.
The Design:
This Dell is a pleasant blend of space saving and high performance. There is a good assortment of ports on the front of the PC so there’s no need to reach behind and blindly search for a spare port.
Suitability:
The 7050 is a business spec PC on the face of it but we wouldn’t suggest not buying it if you are simply looking for a good spec home use PC.
