Our Specialist view of the Dell Optiplex 7020 Small Form Factor (SFF) PC
The Spec:
The refurbished Dell Optiplex 7020 SFF computer has a Small Form Factor case that measures 29 x 9.30 x 31.20 cm and weighs around 6 kilograms. Inside the case is a 5th generation Intel Core i5 quad core processor, 8GB RAM with 4 DIMM slots for up to 16GB, a mechanical SATAIII 500GB HDD and Windows 10 Professional 64Bit preinstall for out of the box computing. There is no Wi-Fi connectivity but you’ll find gigabit Ethernet LAN, USB 3.0, DisplayPort and various other connectivity options.
The Good Bits:
Much like the Dell OptiPlex 7010, the newer 7020 still offers exceptional expandability options plus a wealth of ports. The easy access case has a panel on one side that removes via the lift of a catch and slide away motion. It’s small enough to put on a desk or stow away underneath. There is space enough inside for a graphics card and Wi-Fi card and there are plenty of external ports to add dual monitors and as many USB peripherals as you could want.
The Not So Good Bits:
As with the Dell 7010, the 7020 has a fan that can be a bit noisy but it does keep the PC cool. We’d like to be able to install an extra hard drive such as an SSD but there just isn’t the space or spare SATA connection.
The Design:
Dell haven’t varied their design much from the 780/790 range and the 7020 follows suit. It’s not beautiful but do we care all that much when you get as much performance from the 7020 as you do? The answer is no not really.
Suitability:
Designed originally with business use in mind, we see no reason why the Dell 7020 PC wouldn’t be ideal for a business professional in a small to mid size business.
