Our Specialist view of the Vodafone V-Multi TrackiSafe GPS Tracker
What we think of the design:
It’s not quite a 007 James Bond tiny GPS tracker and it’s a bit chunkier and heavier than the TrackR but it’s far more advanced and packed with more tech. It’s also still only 3.9cm x 3.9cm and still houses a GPS module, rechargeable battery and embedded SIM card. There is also a handy SOS button and battery indicator on top of the device.
What’s good about it?
Unlike the popular Tile Mate, this is a fully fledged tracking device because it has GPS built-in and doesn’t just rely on a Bluetooth connection and “crowd locate”. The V-Multi is considered a proper tracker because it has a GPS module which can pinpoint the devices location in real time without needing a network of users to identify and tag the location. Vodafone also pack the V-Multi off with some extras including a hard case, clip and pouch with carabineer, which turns the tracker from a normal tracker to a multipurpose. With those you can track your pet or make sure you precious little bundles are safe and sound in school.
Are there any drawbacks?
When compared directly to products like the Tile Mate or the TrackR Pixel, which have huge battery lives, sometimes a year plus, the V-Multi does have a disadvantage because of its battery only lasts for up to 3 days. That is about where that negative stops. The Tile Mate has a non-replaceable battery, the TrackR has a little button battery this is fiddly to replace and the V-Multi simply needs to be plugged in to a USB mains plug. The other drawback to the V-Multi is the required subscription but with prices only £4 per month, for having that piece of mind it’s hardly worth thinking twice about.
Are there alternative products available?
We mentioned two of the market leaders in trackers and there are more available. There is of course a big difference when it comes to true GPS trackers. Yes there are still alternatives but the price shoots up.
