Our Specialist view of the Lenovo ThinkPad X240 laptop

The Spec:

The refurbished Lenovo ThinkPad X240 specs look like this: An Intel Core i5 dual core processor with 4GB DDR3 RAM, which can be upgraded to 8GB and a 500GB mechanical hard drive. A webcam and WiFi is standard plus a wired LAN internet connection for use in the office, at home or at school. The hard drive has Windows 7 Professional preloaded.

The Good Bits:

Lenovo X240’s are a good balance of portability, usability and expandability. We really like that it’s light and can easily be carried around. It’s also supported by a solid spec and with some tech improvements from the X230. USB 3.0 is another solid additional which offers faster data transfer rates. Battery life is always a concern for any laptop, less so for the X240. Lenovo have installed 2 batteries in the X240, an internal and external, Power Bridge Technology, giving the end user an increased battery life.

The Not So Good Bits:

Windows 7! It’s not a huge negative or a reason not to use this X240 as there is still a demand for legacy software of therefore laptops that run it, but because it’s not supported anymore by Microsoft, there aren’t any security or software updates, which does leave the system more open to malicious intent. The Design:

We don’t get a cry of ultra modern design with sweeping lines and a narrow bezel display but what is obvious is that this laptop is designed with some serious use in mind. It’s a take anywhere, do almost anything design with an excellent standard keyboard and plenty of expandability options.

Suitability:

The Lenovo X240 with Windows 7 is deal for businesses and/or professionals running legacy software and/or equipment. It’s also ideal as a back up or as a workstation that doesn’t require any internet access.
