Our Specialist view of the Dell Latitude E7440
The Spec:
Our Dell Latitude E7440 laptops are spec’d up with: a 14.1” HD Anti Glare display, a 4th Gen Dual Core i5 processor, fairly standard 4GB RAM, a small but mighty 128GB Solid Sate Drive, USB 3.0 & HDMI connectivity plus a webcam. Despite the small is hard drive, with Windows 10 Pro preloaded you will still have roughly 3 quarters of the hard drive available.
The Good Bits:
The Dell E7440 offers a great balance between sturdy construction, reliability and a powerful enough spec to smash though your everyday tasks. Like Lenovo, Dell has subjected the 7440 to Military spec testing MIL-STD 810G and its tri-metal chassis makes it even stronger than its Lenovo counterparts. The addition of a small capacity but fast SSD is something we also like. It makes the laptop feel a bit faster and makes up for the 4GB RAM installed.
The Not So Good Bits:
It’s a very middle of the road laptop in our view. It has some great features such as the tri-metal chassis, webcam, USB 3.0 & HDMI connectivity but that is then negated by an older 4th Gen i5 processor and only 4GB RAM installed. It’s not the heaviest 14” laptop we have ever come across but neither is it the lightest at almost 1.7 kg. If you like the Dell E7440 but think it could do with some improved specs, have a look at our other stock of Dell i7 E7440.
The Design:
We’ve touched on aspects of the design we really like including the sturdy tri-metal chassis and military spec testing standards and these really are great plus points of what is an excellent laptop. The keyboard is responsive and accurate; however there is something that we found a bit odd. Dell decided to put the ports on the back of the laptop rather than the sides. It does make for a tidier appearance if you have multiple peripherals plugged in and are connected to a larger screen monitor, but accessing them can be a bit of a fiddle.
Suitability:
Its solid construction, durability and decent spec make this Dell Latitude E7440 perfect for a student. It can be slipped in to a backpack and will withstand a few bumps along the way.
