Our Specialist view of the Dell Optiplex 7010 Small Form Factor (SFF) PC

The Spec:

The Dell Optiplex 7010 has a Small Form Factor chassis that weighs a roughly 6 kilos. It packs an Intel Core i5 3^rd Gen quad core processor, 4GB DDR3 RAM with room for up to 16, a 128GB Solid State Drive (SSD) and Intel integrated graphics. There is no DVD optical present but a mix of USB 2.0 USB 3.0 and other different ports are standard. Windows 10 Professional is also preloaded.

The Good Bits:

A plethora of ports, expansion slots and general expandability is the stand out for the Dell 7010. A total of 10 USB ports with a mix of USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 mean you’ll have more USB ports than you could possibly know what to do with! Not happy with the integrated graphics? No problem! Whack a dedicated graphics card. You also know, as is the same with most Dell PC’s, this 7010 is built to last.

The Not So Good Bits:

There aren’t many drawbacks to the 7010, only really 2 worth mentioning. The fan can get a bit noisy and the PC itself does also get hot. It’s important to note we haven’t yet had one that crashing due to overheating.

The Design:

More compact than its older larger brother, the SFF is far more compact in size and lighter in weight. The expandability is still good in this 7010 SFF but not quite as good as the Mini Tower. Ports are well placed and plentiful so you won’t find yourself have to struggle blindly trying to plug in another USB cable around the back of the PC. Perhaps you still want the Dell 7010 SFF but you fancy one with a better processor? Fortunately we have a Small Form Factor i7 Dell 7010.

Suitability:

Designed originally with business use in mind, we see no reason why the Dell 7010 wouldn’t be ideal for a business professional in a small to mid size business, especially in its reduced size and weight and the addition of an SSD.
