Customer Reviews
usual service from Morgan, perfect,
We are messing around testing a new software product, and didn't want to get it anywhere near our network, saw this and created a stand alone server , it really flies along, and for this use case just what what we need, in fact when we get our software to work properly we may well use this as a pre production test server as it seems powerful enough and then no doubt try and break it again with our next development. Worked as expected, out of the box, with next day delivery. It really doesn't get any better than this, over the years (20?ish?) Morgan have always come up trumps, unless we need something very specialist we don't look anywhere else for stuff like this.

Excellent value for money,
Runs perfectly, hard drive is a bit noisy but otherwise no complaints.

excellent service and advice,
Great advise on getting the best package to enable us to continue to run older software as if it was new! We bought 2!

Top Notch Product,
I needed a computer that would be used primarily to create and edit videos and, having spoken to the staff at Morgan, this computer was the one recommended one for my needs. I went with the recommendation and having now used it daily for the past few months I am *extremely* pleased with it's performance. I've done no modifications to it. The boot time is superb and the way it deals with the latest Camtasia 8 together with other audio/video/graphics software programmes at the same time is simply amazing. No lagging or stuttering which I experienced on my old computer. I've been a customer of Morgan since 1999 and whilst they continue to provide products like this I will continue to be their customer in the future. Excellent product and strongly recommended.

Well built and good value,
I'm well pleased with this bling-free, quiet, solidly competent piece of kit. Plug and play with a 2560x1440 monitor and enough memory to cope well with some flaky Java-based bloatware I'm stuck with using. Also works fine if you fancy an o/s upgrade: mine has been running very sweetly straight out of the box dual booting with OpenSuse 42.2 as lead o/s.

You get what you pay for.,
It is not worth me repeating what previous reviewers have said, most of which I agree with, particularly Phil from Leeds. I think most people who buy a computer like this are going to tweak it a bit to bring it in line with their exact needs and they may still have to do that for a machine costing twice as much. at the end of the day a good value, solidly built workhorse.

Excellent, but some quibbles,
Like other reviewers I am very pleased with this machine. Although the model is quite old, it is still very powerful especially with the generous 16GB RAM and runs Windows 7 Pro well. However, I do have a few quibbles, hence four stars: The PC itself is indeed very quiet, as others have confirmed, but the supplied 2TB hard drive is not: it's one of the noisiest I've come across. I know I should have read the spec more carefully, but I was surprised to find that there are only two 3½-inch drive bays: there is plenty of room in the case for more. As I need a four-disk setup I have had to buy two 5¼-inch to 3½-inch adapters and take out the DVD drive to make room. The item description doesn't mention that the 3½-inch bays require a set of special mounting screws. The supplied drive was of course fitted with these, but there were no spares for the other bay. Fortunately I managed to find them on eBay ("Hp Pc hard Drive Hdd Separation Mounting Screws Set Blue X4"). Also not mentioned is the fact that to connect the 3½-inch drives you need SATA cables with right-angle connectors (at the drive end), as the case design doesn't allow enough space for the standard type. The video output is one DVI socket no VGA. As I don't have a current digital monitor I had to buy a DVI to VGA adapter. Finally, I was disappointed that there were no eSATA connectors. Again, this is easily remedied, but as I'd already had to spend over £20 on all these extras I'm leaving it for now. Despite these quibbles, I would thoroughly recommend this machine. It's excellent value for money, especially with the £50 discount I was lucky enough to get.

I am not a techy/nerd. I just wanted a pc that could handle two monitors. This can handle three. The machine is far more powerful than I will ever need. This review is principally about how Morgan handled my frustrations. For the monitors this machine requires a DVI-I to VGA adapter and two Display Point to VGA adapters. This is not mentioned in the description above and I can only assume that Morgan expected their customers to recognise the connections. Having said that, when I phoned them they handled my frustrations with great patience and told me what I needed. Thank you for putting up with me, Morgan. I was also pleasantly surprised at the lack of bloatware. I soon spoiled that by loading my HP printer software.

Fab Kit,
I have to say this was the best amount of money I have ever spent on a computer. I use this computer to work on photographs and it has ample power to work with the latest copy of Photoshop and Lightroom. No time lack and super image quality. Brill

Really Chuffed!,
I've been trying (partly as a challenge) to keep my very noisy 14 year-old 32 bit PC going with a lightweight Linux OS as there's no support for XP anymore. However, the CPU & GPU are no match for modern web browsers even on Linux, and, since deciding to scan and archive a few hundred, recently found, old family photos, I decided it was time to update. Delivery was not quite as fast as in some other reviews. I ordered it on a Saturday afternoon and it arrived the following Tuesday - fast enough though. Out of the box the Z400 is obviously well made and solid. The case is a little scuffed on top but it's under a desk so that's no problem. It's very clean inside and well put together with room for expansion throughout and there's no shortage of holes to plug things into!. The thing that struck me most was simply how quiet it was compared to my old one - bliss! I installed my own fresh copy of Windows 7 Pro (just-in-case) dual-booted with my everyday OS, Linux Mint Cinnamon 18 (why does it take Windows nearly 24 hours to download and install it's updates after a fresh install when it only takes a Linux distribution approx 20 minutes?) There were no problems whatsoever with hardware drivers, it all worked straight away. I'm considering installing a SSD in the near future so hopefully that will speed it up even more. All in all, a solid buy, I'm really pleased with it.

Supurb piece of kit,
Ordered Saturday afternoon expected Tuesday(Monday was Bank Holiday) it arrived Sunday 1 0'clock ! how's that for service. a few minor scratches on the case but who cares it's here to work not look good. Upgraded the graphics card to drive the three monitors and changed the HDD for a 500Gb SSD. Boots Win7 Pro in 20 sec. Handles everything I throw at it with ease. Almost silent running. all in all one hell of a machine worth every penny.

A Great computer at this price,
A superb computer at the price, It is very fast, not clean as my laptop I got from Morgan few month back, Top cover scratch Line running across,Not clean from out side, Great Inside, very clean, A Grade Should have no Marks, so only 4 Stars.

Arrived very quick and boy was I pleased with the result I had heard that rebuilds were good but I am more than pleased First class product and service

Grunt - staight out of the Box,
As soon as its switched on you simply feel the rawness of that Xeon cutting through all that can be thrown at it and partnered along with a very competitively priced 480GB SSD drive it literally tears through your OS loading as well as all the programs you can care to tempt. The Xeon has always been a dream to own and sits mightily impressive by its sheer size and which is mounted by a gargantuan finned cooling array. The supplied 2TB HD though expansive for most lacks long-term stability and CrystalInfo confirms this. However, I doubt that this should put you off as storage space is no longer expensive. All-in-all, a worthy investment and as prevuiuosly mentioned comes in a solidly well built HP 'battleship' class case and a very flexible HP bios allows you some good setup options.

A superb computer at the price,
An excellent machine, exactly as described. I ordered in the wee small hours of Monday morning and the box arrived on Tuesday.I immediately installed a linux distribution, which recognised all the hardware. Build quality is as I have come to expect from HP, having bought many of their refurbished machines over the years.

Big, but powerful,
My tired old PC couldn't cope with modern CAD software, so I got this one as the specification is excellent for the price. It ran perfectly straight out of the box, has bags of space and performance. It is a tall tower case, so physically as big as it is fast. Very happy with the purchase, and Morgan do actually offer very good support.

Superb once you get it configured,
I had three additional hard disks to put into the machine. One of the other reviewers said switch to IDE mode when adding disks if you don't want to configure as RAID. Here's the first hint: ignore that advice. I wasted most of an afternoon before switching back to the native mode, which solved the problem. Setting up RAID is optional, done via the RAID BIOS. Second hint: if you take the primary disk out of another HP machine which has been upgraded to Windows 10, it will boot this machine and Windows 10 is clever enough to reconfigure itself for the new hardware but you won't be able to re-activate the installation as you can't move an upgraded version of the operating system. So stick with Windows 7 and run the Windows 10 upgrade if that is what you want (my experience is that Windows 7 is more stable anyway). Third hint: if you have a set of Windows 7 64 bit install disks handy, go for a complete clean install then let the machine run for a day downloading the 300 or so patches it needs to get up to date. You will have a much cleaner, faster machine. Final hint: check the graphics card in the machine very carefully if you decide to download Nvidia native drivers. I read the spec which says Quadro 2000 and wasted another few hours downloading and trying to run the install before I discovered that the graphics card in the machine shipped to me is actually an Nvidia FX 1800. Trying to run an analog monitor off this card via a DVI-XGA adaptor is a pain because the card runs at fixed frequencies of 60, 75, 76 and 112 Hz (my monitor can do 85 or 100 but not 112). I finally swapped out for a different Nvidia card (GeForce GT 520) which has native XGA. This works a treat. Running Adobe CS applications under Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, this machine is phenomenal. It's worth the two or three days it will take to get it fully-configured.

Still setting up,
Delivery was faster than expected. Got it set up, working fine, but now setting up again with an SSD as C. Nice fast machine, getting faster. Pleased with service and product.

Wot a Cracker,
Serious machine in A1 condition

HP Z400 Quad Core Intel Xeon 3.06GHz Tower PC 16GB RAM 2TB HDD NVidia Quadro 2000 1GB 3D - Windows 7 Pro,
Exactly what it says on the packet, extremely good value for the spec. of the machine. I ordered it at 16.30 and it arrive at 12.45 the following day, very good service, this is the second order I have made with Morgan and I will certainly be using them again in the future

Outstanding value and performance,
Possibly the best value computer purchase I've ever made. Delivery was next day, in the specified one-hour timeslot, and the machine was in excellent condition. A couple of small scuff marks on the casing, but nothing that doesn't fit the Grade A1 spec, and with the cover off, the interior (of mine at least) is pristine. It looks as though it was hardly used by its previous owners. This is the Z400 variant with six memory slots (three pairs). If even the 16GB fitted isn't enough for you £40 or so will get you a pair of DIMMS to take you up to 24GB. Probably a more desirable addition would be a 4 port USB3 card for under £20, since absence of USB3 ports is about the only feature that dates this machine. The lack of HDMI out is not problem at all, with one DVI and two (full-size) Display Port outlets, either or both of which can be "degraded" to HDMI by easily-obtainable adapters. The build quality is excellent even by HP's high standards. Though very heavy thanks to the serious amounts of rigid steel, it's surprisingly quiet for such a powerful machine, even with its three fans running. Much quieter, for example, than my HP laptop when its CPU fan cuts in. I actually got this mainly for video editing and rendering, but I've found it also makes a great host for virtual machines. The performance with the latest Virtual Box 5 is astonishing. I have three displays attached using all three outlets on the card. Right now I have a 1080p video running perfectly smoothly under one Windows 10 virtual guest, while compiling the Linux kernel under Centos 7 in another virtual machine, and I'm still able to edit a Word document under the Windows 7 host OS without any trace of lag.

HP Z400 Quad Core Intel Xeon 3.06GHz Tower PC 16GB ,
Good value, nice case design.Note that if you add a second hard disc it will configure as a RAID system with the first disc. If you don't want this enter the BIOS and switch the RAID configuration to the IDE option (a bit confusing as the discs are SATA not IDE.

HP Z400 Computer,
This commuter is a real bargain. it is very fast and gets near full marks on the Windows speed test. I have upgraded it to Win 10 and added an extra 1GB SATA HD from my old commuter. I am more than pleased.

Z 400,
Does what it says on the box. You can carry out many tasks at a time without having the computer slow down. The only crib, if it is a crib, and that is the lack of HDMI. But a DVI to HDMI conversion cable works well. Changed the software to Windows 10 without any problem. Very pleased so far.

Everything you need, except . . .. ,
Bought for editing videos, this one at last is the beast for the job. BUT - when first booted up the image on the monitor was extended sideways, letter-box fashion! Simon at Morgan was very helpful but in the end tweaking the graphics card did the trick. Took me quite a while, though as I tried the monitor first!
