Customer Reviews
Good phone - be realistic,
This was released two years ago with some saying it was a potential iPhone killer - and for good reason - back then. Today it is a capable smart phone. It is responsive and intuitive. With wifi (as well as 3g data) you don't need to burn data where wifi is available. Email works very well - automatically downloading when 'online.' The keyboard is better than it looks. Some reviews speak disparagingly about battery life. True -- if you leave wifi on all the time! Just turn off wifi until needed -- and that is very easy to do. In fact most settings and changes can be done in very few steps. And when you don't need data or 3g you can easily turn these off, increasing battery life still further. When I have it set only on 2g the battery will last more than three days - but I am a low user! The camera is nothing special - fixed focus and grainy in low light, even with flash. Video works well, but with the same low light issue. The screen though is brilliant - sharp and clear. I haven't tested it with music files yet. The browser is very good -- though I would like the option to have Opera Mobile. The PDF/Office viewers are not up to scratch -- my iPaq 214 comes into its own there (on Windows Mobile.) Bluetooth (as in the specs) is only for headset use -- too bad. File transfer would've been nice. Speaking of file transfer -- that can only be done via USB. BUT I was able to copy my whole address book from Outlook to it -- not a one-step process though. To be synced it has go through a few steps. The free choice is to upload your address book to gmail, and sync gmail with the Pre. Oh - if you do get this, follow the instructions regarding installing the sim card and charging the battery, etc. (Initialisation is slow.) Then, with a fully charged battery, download the latest OS update (use wifi - it takes over half an hour). Some features did not run well 'out-of-the-box- - but with the update things improved greatly. Facebook and Youtube are OK. All-in-all it is a great LITTLE smart phone for the price. What more could you ask for for £100.00?
